The Amphora Studios Co-operative is a little different from other studios in Cincinnati. The studio is slanted toward encouraging working artists. Our main goal is not to be the prettiest or the cleanest studio in the city, but to be the most encouraging of talent, creativity and marketing of artists work. Our aim is to have working experienced potters alongside sculptors, handbuilders, and beginners. We need beginners to keep a feeling of freshness and creativity which can get difficult to maintain for experienced people. We need intermediate potters to partipate in group shows and help set up the gallery. We need advanced artists to help teach the beginners and to create a standard for each other that challenges and inspires. Each level of skill contributes to the general atmosphere of the studio, and we value the contributions of all of our participants.

We have a 5 thousand square foot ceramics studio to be shared the artists. We are located at 2533 Gilbert Ave in Walnut Hills. The studio is based on a co-operative work concept, and decisions for the running of the studio are made by members. Each of the artists will be responsible for: 1. cleaning up after themselves and 2. helping to with maintain and run the studio and future gallery.  Studio work runs the skill range from sweeping the parking lot, managing reclaim, cleaning the bathroom, mixing glazes, data-entry on the computer, loading the kiln, and painting the walls, so please do not worry about not having the skills needed to run a studio. Everyone knows how do do some/one of these things. We are planning three events for 2006 which all studio members may participate in.

There is a fenced and gated lot behind the building to park in and within the next year we will be opening a gallery for studio users to sell their work. We have 15 wheels set up for use, one 1227 Skutt Kiln, one extruder, one slab roller and 12 large (25 gallon) containers of glaze, with 16 five gallon buckets of glaze.

During the first year, we will be charging $60 per month of 24 hour access to the space. Clay is extra and must be purchased from the studio (profits from the clay sales pay for the glaze materials). All the dipping glazes are included. Firing will be cone 5/6 electric and charged for by the pound.
